Understand Funnel Queries
Funnel tracks progression through a fixed order of milestones for the same EventOwner. Use it to see how far people or processes progress, where they stop, and how long matched steps take.
Example: Product Viewed → Added to Cart → Checkout Started → Payment Completed.
A Funnel requires its milestones to match in the order you specify. Other activity can occur between milestones without interrupting progress.
Unlike Any-Order Behavior, milestone order matters. Unlike a Sequence Order query, Funnel automatically skips records that do not match the next expected milestone; you do not add Any controls.
Example:
Product Viewed → Search Used → Added to Cart → Help Opened → Checkout Started → Payment Completed
The funnel completes. Search Used and Help Opened do not advance it.
When to Use It
- Checkout conversion: Product Viewed → Added to Cart → Checkout Started → Payment Completed.
- Feature adoption: Account Created → Dashboard Opened → Report Created → Export Used.
- Application progression: Application Started → Documents Submitted → Review Completed → Application Approved.
Choose an EventOwner appropriate to the question. A Customer ID can combine activity across visits; a Session ID keeps sessions separate. An Application ID keeps each application separate.
