Understanding Results
Read patterns, sequences, owners and result statuses.
28. Why did my query return no matches?
Check that the events occur for the same owner, within the selected date range, and satisfy their source and filter definitions.
Then check order, missing Any controls in Sequence Order, timing thresholds, required copies, recurrence settings, sequence limits, sampling, and configured owner exclusions.
Rows with null EventOwner values are excluded before matching. A query execution error is different from a successful query with zero matches.
29. Why is a sequence incomplete even though all event types appear in the data?
Having the event types somewhere in the data is insufficient. They must belong to the same owner and satisfy the query’s order, occurrences, controls, and observation boundaries.
Example: Funnel A → B → C does not complete from A → C → B unless another C appears later.
Also check sequence limits and whether your event definitions overlap.
30. What is the difference between a pattern, a sequence, and a unique EventOwner?
A sequence is one matched occurrence: one particular series of records.
A pattern groups sequences with the same displayed matched behavior.
A unique EventOwner counts distinct owners represented. One customer completing the same pattern five times contributes five sequences but one unique owner.
31. Why do some records show INCOMPLETE inside a sequence that eventually completes?
The status on an intermediate record reflects progress when that record was processed. A later record can complete the same sequence.
Use the final outcome for the sequence, rather than judging it from an early row. Funnel likewise marks intermediate milestones INCOMPLETE while the occurrence is still progressing.
32. What do LIMIT_REACHED and COMPLETED_LIMIT_REACHED mean?
LIMIT_REACHED means the sequence record limit stopped an active candidate before it qualified for completion.
COMPLETED_LIMIT_REACHED indicates a qualifying sequence closed successfully at the limit, including an absence check whose prerequisites were satisfied.
The default limit is 50, configurable at submission to a positive whole number; it is not a hard maximum of 50.
In Sequence Order, named records, accepted repeats, and wildcard-captured activity count. For A → Any → B, A + 48 wildcard records + B completes at record 50. If record 50 is still wildcard activity, the current candidate reaches the limit.
In Any-Order, skipped records count while a sequence is active. Normal completion on the limit record takes precedence. System controls are not additional source records. Funnel does not expose this limit setting.
33. Are the sample sequences the complete results?
No. Sample sequences show a limited set for inspection, with up to 25 sequences for a selected pattern.
Use Copy SQL to inspect the underlying result data when you need broader analysis or to validate totals.
34. How can I inspect the records and timing behind a match?
Open the pattern’s Sample sequences, select a sequence, and view its timeline or event timing.
Use timestamps, payload fields, and transition durations to understand what matched. Skipped records are not automatically included as matched steps; use Sequence Order with Any when you need intervening activity captured.
35. Can I copy SQL and inspect results directly in Snowflake?
Yes. Result screens provide SQL you can copy and run in Snowflake with the required access.
Use it to inspect the underlying result objects beyond the displayed sample. Run it before those results expire.
36. How long are results retained?
The default retention is 24 hours, with the displayed retention window starting at completion. My Queries supports adjusting the remaining retention period before expiry.
Result objects are removed by cleanup processing after expiry. This affects query results, not the original source records. Do not assume changing retention after expiry restores deleted results.
