Negation

Understand when and where an absence check applies.

93. Does an earlier forbidden event invalidate an Any-Order set?

No. Negation observation starts only after the positive requirements and system filters qualify.

Cancellation → Verified → Consent can still qualify for a “no later cancellation” check. This is not an absence check across the entire date range.

Illustration: Negation begins after the positive set qualifies.

94. What if the forbidden event also matches the record completing the positive set?

Any-Order does not check that same qualifying record against negation. It starts checking on subsequent records.

Avoid assuming simultaneous positive and negative matches invalidate the set. If this distinction matters, use non-overlapping event definitions and verify the intended business meaning.

95. Can negation pass without subsequent records?

Yes. If the required set qualifies on the owner’s last selected record, partition-end handling completes the absence check without requiring another record.

This means no later forbidden event was observed in the available data; it does not establish a minimum observation period.

96. Do unrelated records count during negation observation?

Yes. Each subsequent processed record counts toward the same sequence record limit.

The counter starts with the sequence, not when the positive set finishes. Reaching the limit can close a qualified check as COMPLETED_LIMIT_REACHED.

97. Does recurring counting continue during negation observation?

In Any-Order, no. Once the set qualifies, the engine watches for the forbidden event without rebuilding the positive set or reevaluating recurring and timing filters.

Later records are observed for negation and the sequence limit.

98. Can a negated event be a timing or recurring target?

The Any-Order builder excludes negated events from those target selections. A negated event is an absence requirement, not a required occurrence with a matched timestamp.

Keep at least one positive event; only one negated event is supported.

99. Can another sequence start after negation fails?

In Any-Order, yes. A forbidden record closes the active sequence as INCOMPLETE and resets its state. Later positive records can start another candidate.

The forbidden record is not reprocessed as a new positive start in that negation-observation branch.

100. Does successful negation mean the event never occurred in the date range?

No. It means the event was not observed after qualification and before that check’s stopping boundary.

It may have occurred earlier, outside the selected range, or after a sequence-limit closure. Check the closing status and observation scope.
