Check the Time Between Two Selected Occurrences
Duration Difference compares the timestamps of two selected event occurrences.
In Any-Order, it uses the absolute time difference, so either event can occur first.
Build the Query
- Add at least two event occurrences to the event basket.
- Add Duration Difference to the system filter basket.
- Select First event and Second event. Select different occurrences; they may be copies of the same event.
- Choose <, ≤, =, ≥, or >.
- Enter Time difference in milliseconds.
- Click Apply filter.
Example name:Duplicate checkout within five seconds
Event basket:Checkout Submitted + Checkout Submitted
System filter:Duration Difference between the two copies < 5,000 ms
How It Works
Duration Difference = Absolute gap between the two selected timestamps
With Duration Difference < 5,000 ms:
- 2 seconds apart: The condition passes.
- Exactly 5 seconds apart: The condition fails.
- 8 seconds apart: The condition fails.
Choose ≤ 5,000 ms if exactly five seconds should pass as well.
For different event types, switching which one happened first does not make the difference negative. First event and Second event identify the comparison endpoints; they do not impose an order.
For minimum-gap conditions such as ≥, an early candidate can be ignored while the engine waits for a later candidate. If an upper-bound condition fails, the engine advances to a new candidate window.
When to Use It
- Find two submissions less than five seconds apart.
- Find identity verification and consent within two hours of each other.
- Find two alerts separated by at least ten minutes, without requiring a particular alert order.
Note:Duration Difference measures only the two selected occurrences. Other required events may occur outside their gap unless you also add Duration Length.
